Industrial Revolution The Golden Age Of Invention
The twentieth century was the golden age of invention. No doubt about it. No other century could ever come close to the technological advancement developed then that has such an impact on our modern lives. But another era of invention that is not as cool, relevant, or recent enough to remember is the Industrial Revolution. Given how common factories are around the world (more specifically, the Northeast) in modern times, no one could ever believe the fact that there was a time without them. (Wow, look at that industrialization!) Aside from child labor, and positively disgusting living and working conditions, the Industrial Revolution had its fair share of innovation and ideas. And all too similar to this day and age, the ideas as well asâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦patent laws, which really werenââ¬â¢t that good and still arenââ¬â¢t. Another instance of intellectual piracy, but one that stayed entirely in America, was the first actual invention of the Industrial Revolution: t he Cotton Gin.Inventor Eli Whitney traveled to the South and stayed on a mildly successful cotton plantation, in which the sweeping problem of the nation was revealed to him: though cotton was easily the most profitable crop due to its ability to be stored for long times and how unchallenging it was to grow, its major flaw was how difficult the seeds were to obtain from within the product. He addressed this problem by creating the Cotton Gin, which acted like a sort of strainer that separates the seeds from the cotton. ââ¬Å"In many ways, cotton was an ideal crop; it was easily grown, and unlike food crops its fibers could be stored for long periods of time. But cotton plants contained seeds that were difficult to separate from the soft fibers...Greene and her plantation manager, Phineas Miller (1764-1803), explained the problem with short-staple cotton to Whitney, and soon thereafter he built a machine that could effectively and efficiently remove the seeds from cotton plants. The invention, called the cotton gin (ââ¬Å"ginâ⬠was derived from ââ¬Å"engineâ⬠), worked something like a strainer or sieve.â⬠*history.com However, instead of becoming a huge success and loading Whitneyââ¬â¢s pockets, the Cotton Ginââ¬â¢s designed was quickly pirated and spread to farms acrossShow MoreRelatedIndustrial Revolution Essay1000 Words à |à 4 Pagesthat define the success of this Golden age was that of the onset of the multitude of inventions that played a major role in the reformation of agriculture and lifestyle. The transformation of the United States into an industrial nation took place largely after the Civil War and on the Britsih model. A Doll s House Dramatic Irony - 1122 Words
A Dollââ¬â¢s House ââ â Dramatic Irony In A Dollââ¬â¢s House by Henrik Ibsen, dramatic irony is displayed by providing the audience with eventful information to create a focus on the emotions of the characters. This spotlight allows for us to explore and note symbols and subtle gestures which contribute to the greater themes of appearance versus reality and sacrificial roles of women. The effective use of dramatic irony is encapsulated by the belittling of womenââ¬â¢s roles in society during the Victorian era through his expression of his recurring doll image. The doll image can be seen vividly through an unanticipated disdain Nora builds for her unjust lifestyle, making evident that there is a gap between the doll appearance of Nora and her life andâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The effect of dramatic irony here builds through Noraââ¬â¢s physical actions and reactions to these comments; ââ¬ËWithdraws handââ¬â¢, ââ¬ËPale with terrorââ¬â¢. These subtle actions are observed and analyzed by the audience subconsciously. If Torvald had learned about Noraââ¬â¢s dishonesty, Nora would have stayed on terms of guilt rather than leave with her head held high and in the act of independence. Dramatic irony is also developed through Dr. Rankââ¬â¢s last goodbye to the Helmer family. In this play, Dr. Rank appears to be the only one who believes that Nora goes beyond her woman role; he treats her even above her husband, which is absurd in the Victorian Era. In this scene, Dr. Rank speaks with Nora in ââ¬Å"codeâ⬠, allowing for them to communicate clearly to one another, but saving Torvald from the tragic news. Nora and Dr. Rank speak to one another, using the masquerade as means of speaking of Dr. Rankââ¬â¢s fast approaching death. Coraline free essay sample
In response to the school boardââ¬â¢s request for student feedback, I am writing to express my opinion about which should be used to teach about the Fantasy genre, Coraline the book or Coraline the movie. In my opinion, I believe that Coraline the movie should be used in schools to teach the Fantasy genre. This is because the sounds, animations, and new characters all show more elements and examples of the Fantasy genre than in the book. By the time you finish reading this, you will surely end up being persuaded that Coraline the movie has more elements and examples of Fantasy than in the book. The first detail that makes Coraline the movie have more elements of Fantasy is animation. The animations in the movie were cartoon people, which means the characters donââ¬â¢t necessarily have to do things real people can do. Another element of animation that makes the movie more fantastical is that you can see exactly what the character is doing but in the book it is just your imagination. We will write a custom essay sample on Coraline or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Also, in the movie, special effects can be added to make the scenes look more fantastical. Overall, the animations from the movie show more elements of fantasy than in the book. Secondly, the new and different characters in the movie make Coraline the movie have more elements of fantasy than the book. In the movie, the ââ¬Å"other motherâ⬠turns the ââ¬Å"other dadâ⬠into a pumpkin instead of a blob. This is more fantastical because pumpkins are plants and the fact that a pumpkin is alive and speaks is very fantastical. The second example of new and different characters is Wybie Lovat. He is a new character that is in the movie but not the book. He adds more fantasy because he finds a doll that looks just like Coraline and gives it to her. The new and different characters is the second detail that makes Coraline the movie have more elements of Fantasy. The third detail that makes Coraline the movie have more elements of Fantasy is sound. The sound from the movie can let you hear the characters tone of voice while speaking which lets you know if what they are saying sounds fantastical. The second thing is that you can hear background sounds and noise. This adds to Fantasy because it lets you hear strange sounds in the background that make it more fantastical. The third thing is that in the movie you can hear how loud the character is speaking. This can let you know how the character feels which adds on to the fantastical elements. I have now expressed my opinion on which to use to teach the Fantasy genre. Coraline the movie has many elements and examples of Fantasy. Coraline the movie should be used in schools to teach the Fantasy genre because the sounds, animations, and new or different characters all show more elements and examples of the Fantasy genre than in the book. Now that you have taken a look at many examples and elements of Fantasy in the movie, I hope that you consider using Coraline the movie to teach Fantasy in schools.

Naadac Code of Ethics free essay sample
After reading the NAADAC Code of Ethics I have come to realize how any violation of them could impact either a client or the Human Services Profession as a whole. Any profession, such as the Human Services, that has the capacity to do so much good for an individual also has the same capacity to do them harm. In order to prevent such harm a code of ethics must be created and followed by everyone in that profession. The NAADAC Code of Ethics consists of nine principles. These principles, though few in number, are powerful in content. They help guide and maintain a helpful relationship with our clients and prevent a hurtful one. Some of the challenges I foresee having with NAADACââ¬â¢s Code of Ethics will be easier to deal with than others. Principle 2 talks about client welfare. It states, ââ¬Å"I shall not do for others what they can readily do for themselves but rather, facilitate and support the doing. We will write a custom essay sample on Naadac Code of Ethics or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page â⬠In the past I have often found myself ââ¬Å"helpingâ⬠others in a way that I will have to watch out for. I have a tendency to catch myself doing for others and not realizing that thatââ¬â¢s not helping but doing. I understand the basis behind letting the clients do for themselves. A sense of accomplishment and control are necessary to a clients well being. Doing for a client what they can do for themselves is not helpful at all. Dual Relationships, as described in Principle 7, seems to me to be the biggest issue a helping professional is faced with on a continuous basis. Although I feel that I will not have a huge problem in this area, I know that this issue requires constant and diligent awareness. In order to maintain a professional and helping relationship with a client certain lines must be drawn. Even though we are human and imperfect, we must maintain a professional relationship with our clients and never exploit the obvious power differential that exists between us for personal gain. To do so would undermine the entire profession, our agencies, and the relationships we have with our clients. The only other principle I see that may be an issue for some people is number 8. Principle 8 covers the reporting of individuals that may be an actual or likely source of harm to clients, colleagues, institutions, or the profession. Personally, I can understand why this would be a difficult subject. Reporting someone to the authorities for the sake of preventing harm to themselves or others, however difficult, is the right thing to do. Some would call it ââ¬Å"narkingâ⬠, ââ¬Å"snitchingâ⬠, or ââ¬Å"rattingâ⬠someone out, but in the helping profession to do otherwise would be a failure on our part to do just thatâ⬠¦. help. I chose this field of study to help others the way that I have been helped and to give back to the world what has so freely been given to me and I gladly accept NAADACââ¬â¢s Code of Ethics. When we enter this profession we are given great power and with great power comes great responsibility.

Your Topic Is Pharmacogenomics Example Your Topic Is Pharmacogenomics ââ¬â Coursework Example Pharmacogenomics This paper contains the basic definition of Pharmacogenomics and the beneficial and harmful effects imposed by this biotechnology will also be discussed. Pharmacogenomics; its Beneficial and Harmful Effects The term Pharmacogenomics is a combination of pharmacology and genomics and it is the study which explains how different people respond to medicines and other drugs depending on their genetic composition. It is actually the gene factor in each individual which entails the difference in responses. Apart from genetic framework, there are a number of reasons that contribute to the variation in attitudes, they can be diet, environment, lifestyle, age factor etc but the key to manufacturing tailor made medicines totally depends on how well the doctors understand the genetic makeup of individuals. (Martin, 11) Beneficial EffectsPharmacogenomics makes it easy for individuals to identify their respective gene code which in turn enables them to maintain a lifestyle which i s in accordance to it so that the genetic complexities which might prove to be harmful in the future can be avoided. Moreover disease vulnerability can be detected at an early age and the appropriate treatments and therapies can be offered at the right stage. Initially medicines were diagnosed considering the patientââ¬â¢s age and BMI; however with the advent of Pharmacogenomics, the parameters for diagnosis have changed. Doctors now prescribe medicines keeping in view the genetics, body response to medicine etc which also decreases the chances of overdose. Harmful Effects Information related to pharmacogenomics can lead to psychological disorder in some individuals since they find it depressing to know that they might be subjected to some genetic disorder in the future. Awareness of predisposition to diseases can lead to depressing state of some people. One of the social issues that have been observed due to pharmacogenomics is that it widens the gap between the rich and the po or since the information is available mostly to the rich people since they are more concerned about their health issues whereas poor people on the other hand are least bothered and are usually not aware of this technology due to which a discrimination line is automatically drawn between the two. Computer-aided image processing for bacterial cell enumeration Essay
Computer-aided image processing for bacterial cell enumeration - Essay Example There appear several inhibitors in the way of counting colonies to ensure effectiveness of the method. The inhibitors include; methods of handling confluent development of the development of colonies that lean or overlaps other colonies, the methods of differentiating colonies regardless of the different form, volume, their feel, light intensity amongst other factors (Daims, 2007) The methods ensure accuracy in counting. A devise termed as a colony counter assists in including colonies in bacteria and varied microorganisms thriving in an algae plate. The method applied in overcoming the hindrances includes thresholding, segmentation methods, time domain frequency method, watersheding method, edge detection and morphology operator methods, regional descriptors amongst others. These methods emit a heightened level of accurateness. The projected counter proves highly reliable at both levels of correctness and memory; it also proves flexible and efficient in terms of effort and time savi ng (National Renewable Energy Laboratory (U.S.) and United States, 2006) Keywords Some of the key words in the study includes Bacteria colony, thresholding, morphology, water shedding. Introduction Bacteria colony counting appears vital in quantitative, accurate judgment of pathogens in clinical investigations and diagnosis. The manual process of counting bacteria appears challenging. The use of an automated colony counting helps in saving time and reduces labor requirements. In a bid to create fast and accurate information, and cut down the use of labor workload, two colony counting techniques come in play. The techniques might apply the use of direct and indirect process of counting the colonies. The tradition plate count technique pauses as an indirect technique and often preferred for its cheap nature. Technologies applied for quantification of microbial growth involves: ATP Bioluminescence, spiral plating, the use of membrane filtration, Direct Epi-Florescent Filter Microscopy and Membrane laser scanning, Fluorescence amongst others. Various hindrances require addressing for the techniques that count the present colonies. The techniques supply a heightened degree of correctness in counting that could be attained by applying the use of a trained hand on operator. The machine technique; allows the Bacteria to grow on a filter within a period of 24to 48 hours to examine the contamination level of the sample (Mittal and Matsko, 2012).à The microbiologistsââ¬â¢ uses dye to identify the bacteria clearly and ease the counting process. In an industry setting, thousands of such samples appear per day; the colonies on each side remain counted manually. This consumes a lot of time and increases the chances of errors. The aim of the project remains to create software that saves time and produces the exact outcomes and ensures competence to customers. The project extension designs allows for colonies counting for a period of 6 to 8 hours before, which saves time . The paper seems to differentiate the processing of colony figures with colored data; the filter method applies to deionize (Masters, 2006).à Bacteria Bacteria pause as nuclear microorganisms; that thrives in various surfaces of the earth. Bacteriology, the study of bacteria, is a branch in micro biology. Bacteria can grow anywhere on the face of the earth, in soil, acid hot springs amongst other places. Grouped bacteria originate from one common bacterium. A bacteria cell
